The exotic desert land of Dubai has a beautiful zoo with diverse animals from all around the world. Does this surprise you? What’s even more interesting is that the Dubai Zoo is the first and the oldest zoo in the Arabian Peninsula.
Despite the hot climate and unfavourable conditions, Dubai has outdone itself by creating the perfect environment for all the animals that it houses from across the world.
The zoo was built in 1967 by H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Maktoum who allocated two hectares of land in the posh and popular beach front, Jumeirah. The area where the zoo is located is uptown and has many other tourist attractions like the Burj Al Arab, Marina, and Jumeirah Walk.
The zoo in Dubai hosts over 230 animal species and is to be the first Arabian zoo that breeds Chimpanzees and the Arabian Wild Cat.
Among the many exotic animals, you can spot endangered species like the Royal Bengal Tiger, Grey Wolf and the Siberian Tiger. Some of the popular animals are Pumas, Jaguars, Giraffes, Foxes and birds like Ostriches and colourful Parrots. The zoo also shelters over 400 specimens of reptiles.

All the animals are kept outdoors (not caged) in enclosures that are closely designed to their natural habitat. However, the snake house is indoors. It is open from 10 am to 12 pm and again from 3 pm to 6 pm.
The Dubai Zoo timings in summer are between 10 am to 6 pm and in winters it is open from 10 am to 5.30 pm.
The zoo is open on all days but Tuesday, which remains a holiday.
The Dubai Zoo entrance fee is two dirhams for each person and free for children less than two years of age. The Dubai Zoo ticket price is not applicable for individuals with special needs as the entry is free for them.
The zoo is well-maintained and easy to navigate through. There are washrooms, shaded benches and seats, restaurants, cafes and souvenir stores.

There are prayer rooms with service as well.
Dubai Zoo is located in Jumeirah which is home to some of the finest attractions in Dubai.
The Dubai Zoo is a mere 15-minute drive (approx.) from all the Damac Maison hotels, which makes it convenient for the visitors to spend as much time as they want to in the zoo. The roads leading to the zoo from the hotels also pass by Burj Khalifa and City Walk, so you can visit all in one short drive!
Close to the Dubai Zoo is the Jumeirah Beach and Park, which is a relaxing place for sunbathers, children, and people who love water sports and enjoy a good day of fun at the beach. One can find a variety of dining options in Jumeirah beach.
Of the the main attraction here is the 7-star Burj Al Arab, one of the luxury hotels in the world! One can even enjoy a quiet evening walk down the Jumeirah Walk, a street adorned with boutiques, cafes, ice cream parlours, restaurants, and delis. Also here, watch entertaining street performers and sand castle artists who make incredible structures out of sand.
Spend your evenings with a sip of cocktail or a mug of beer in the city’s most extravagant pubs and bars and keep an eye out for some of the poshest cars and bikes on display!
