Things to Do in and Around Dubai Airport

Flight layovers can be tiresome and boring, especially if can’t wait to get to the destination of your choice. Airports are some of the busiest places in the world and have made the layover a much pleasanter experience. Dubai International Airport is one such place, with its unique charm and activities that can make your free time fly by before you know it.

Deira Shopping Centre

Step out to the nearest shopping mall, the Deira Shopping Centre. Housing more than 350 stores, the three-storey shopping mall includes a multiplex cinema hall, an entertainment centre exclusively for children, and many restaurants for you to pick from. You can also find some souvenirs and basic everyday supplies in the Dubai airport shopping centre.

Deira Clocktower

Once you’re done shopping, you could visit the Deira Clocktower, a popular tourist destination. Constructed in 1965, it is the oldest clock tower in Dubai and is a roundabout. It is considered as one of the primary symbols of Dubai and is definitely worth a visit.

Zen Gardens

If you’re tired out and would like a little siesta, you could head to the Zen Gardens in the Dubai Airport. Yes, the airport has its very own Zen Gardens where you could nap, catch up on the book you’ve been meaning to finish, or just lounge about as you wait for your flight! It is located between gates B7 and B27 in Terminal 3 at the Dubai airport and has tonnes of entertainment to keep you occupied.

Dubai Airport Duty-Free

Dubai is known for its duty-free shopping, and we highly recommend it while you’re at the airport. Dubai duty-free shopping has 26,000 square metres of shopping indulgence, and the best part is, well, it’s duty-free! You get everything imaginable in the Dubai airport duty-free shops, from chocolates to clothes to perfumes from the best brands around the world.

Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club

There are several spectacular hotels around the airport where you can spend the night, including the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club. Perfect if you want to improve your golfing skills, it is also a five-star hotel (one of many in Dubai) and its plush interiors and top-class amenities will have you feeling as pampered as a poodle.

Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding

If you’re interested in the history, culture and customs of the United Arab Emirates, make a visit to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding. The centre organises a range of cultural activities, including Arabic lessons, mosque visits with guides, and heritage tours, which are bound to make your stay in Dubai more fascinating as you’re getting educated.

Dubai Dolphinarium

Finally, children are sure to be delighted by a trip to the Dubai Dolphinarium. Housing seals and dolphins, the dolphinarium has live-action shows where the dolphins and seals perform stunts for the audience and awe them with their incredible abilities. You could also attend several of their activities that are conducted throughout the year; and who knows, you could be swimming with the dolphins soon yourself!

If most of your visit is going to be concentrated around the international airport, it’s not hard to find some of the best hotels in the city close by.
